Erin Thorburn

PR Writer

Equally creative and versatile, Erin Thorburn is a PR Writer with Aker Ink. She expertly combines journalistic prowess with business savvy to tell companies’ stories in myriad ways, helping them achieve their goals through awareness-raising, lead-driving written work.

An accomplished journalist and a children’s book author/illustrator, Erin takes tremendous care to craft engaging content — in all forms. She approaches the PR world with curiosity, fascinated to learn about each client’s background. This sincerity and inquisitiveness enable her to craft compelling articles, nominations, blogs, speeches, online content and other communications requiring a creative touch.

Before joining Aker Ink, Erin was the Assistant Managing Editor at AZ Big Media, writing and editing for all seven of the company’s publications —Az Business, AZRE, Experience AZ, PTK, Az Business Leaders, Play Ball and Ranking AZ. Additionally, for more than a decade, Erin contributed a monthly entertaining article for Tribune News Agency, resulting in her work appearing in SF Gate, MSN.com, Chicago Tribune, The Toronto Star, Seattle Times, Baltimore Sun, The San Diego Union Tribune and other print and online news outlets.

Amidst her journalism journey, Erin worked with a Philadelphia-based digital marketing agency. During her five years with the company, she became a self-proclaimed SEO nerd, soaking up every lesson on optimal meta descriptions, keyword usage and other SEO strategies. Alongside her appreciation of all-things SEO, Erin enjoyed working with the agency’s client base, which included orthopedic companies, dentists, plastic surgeons, urologists, wholesale furniture outlets, Montessori schools and more.

Erin earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with an emphasis in creative writing from Park University.

When Erin’s not crafting PR content, you’ll likely still find her writing. In addition to authoring and illustrating children’s books, she moonlights as a Sci-Fi novelist. If she’s away from her laptop, she’s spending time with her sweetie, three teenage daughters, two dogs, five birds and a bunny.

  • Star Wars Mega Fan: Erin claims to have been Star Wars obsessed “before it was cool,” having a firm allegiance to the original Episodes IV, V, VI. She collects all manner of Star Wars merch and once even had an opportunity to interview Harrison Ford on the red carpet (she has the pictures to prove it), but she froze like a statue (or like Han Solo in carbonite).
  • Early Pitcher: When she was 8 years old, Erin “pitched” author/illustrator James Marshall a story idea for his “George and Martha” children’s book series. Although he politely declined— which she considers her first-ever rejection letter — he did include a lovely personal note and illustration.
  • Serial Hobbyist: From crocheting and watercolor, oil and acrylic painting to sewing, tap dancing and paddle boarding, Erin simply can’t adopt enough hobbies.
