Jake Sonnenburg

Public Relations Account Coordinator

Strategic, collaborative and inquisitive, Jake Sonnenburg plays a crucial role in managing client relationships and ensuring projects are completed on time and to Aker Ink’s high standards. As Public Relations Account Coordinator, he manages tactical and administrative processes that allow the agency to perform at its best. He’s a pro at taking complex challenges and breaking them down into actionable tasks while maintaining clear lines of communication.

Jake’s natural talents as a skilled communicator and strategic thinker lend themselves to developing effective messaging and crafting compelling content that builds brand awareness. Additionally, his expertise in media relations and stakeholder engagement allow him to deliver outstanding results that exceed client expectations.

Before starting at Aker Ink, Jake crafted digital content and coordinated media relations as a Communications Associate at a local communications firm.  He also worked at the Arizona House of Representatives, where he conducted and presented policy research for the House Appropriations Committee. Additionally, he previously assisted in academic research and writing as a Research and Communications Assistant at Arizona State University’s School of Politics and Global Studies.

With an impressive record of service and an equally impressive passion for his community and the environment, Jake volunteers his time with Veterans Heritage Project where he interviews veterans and publishes their stories in an annual anthology featured in the Library of Congress called Since You Asked. He’s also actively involved with the Arizona Mountaineering Club, lending his time to environmental cleanups and maintaining climbing routes and approaches.

Born and raised in the Valley, Jake attended ASU where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Political Science, graduating with honors and a certificate in Political History and Leadership. At ASU, he founded and led Arizona State University’s first Veterans Heritage Project Chapter.

Outside of work, Jake thrives in the outdoors hiking, off-roading and climbing beautiful mountaintops and uncovering the hidden history of Arizona. At home, Jake tends his houseplant collection and dives into new horror or adventure books with his dog, Tex. One day, Jake wants to achieve the Explorer’s Grand Slam by summiting the tallest mountains of the world and visiting the North and South Poles.
