Scott Buffon

Account Executive

With an undeniable knack for identifying newsworthy stories, Scott Buffon serves as an Account Executive with Aker Ink. Nearly a decade in the newsroom honed his storytelling skills, nose for news angles and love for grammar and the English language. Deadline-driven, communicative and thoughtful, Scott uses this expertise to help companies increase brand awareness and reach new target audiences.

Before joining Aker Ink, Scott was an award-winning journalist with several newspapers around California and Arizona. Most recently, he was a senior reporter with the Arizona Daily Sun in Flagstaff, Ariz., where he produced articles covering complex federal forest-thinning practices, crime trends, natural disasters, detailed court rulings and trials, protests, new business openings, city council meetings, heart-warming community interest and the pandemic’s impact on healthcare workers. He also reported for Courthouse News, covering northern Arizona civil case filings and Utah’s higher court rulings, often distilling complex multipage documents and rulings into two sentence summaries.

The Arizona Newspaper Association recognized Scott for Best News Story, Best Feature Story and Best Investigative Story in 2019. He also earned third place for Best News Story the year prior and was a part of a community college newspaper nominated for a national Pacemaker Award from the Associate Collegiate Press in 2014.

During his time at Northern Arizona University, he was the Editor in Chief of The Lumberjack, voiced radio news for the student radio station KJACK and created a podcast for an English creative writing publication The Tunnels.

Beyond journalism, Scott considers himself a writer and storyteller as a part of his nature. Descendant from generations of writers, English teachers and librarians, Scott was introduced to writing and reading at a very young age (he even had the foresight to keep the first poem he ever wrote, but he won’t tell you where it is.) In his spare time, he has recently taken up fantasy writing for his friends’ monthly storytelling game.

Rooted in Flagstaff, Scott lives with his adventurous, wedding-photographer girlfriend where they explore the trails, creeks and verandas of the Southwest in what little free time they both share. He also regularly visits his family in California.

  • Competitive Gamer: Scott has a tactical mind that he uses for his love of board games, video games, word games — you name it! He once placed second in an international, online video game tournament when he was still in high school (before gamers got paid to play, of course.)
  • Outdoor Steward: You can normally find Scott on trails around the Southwest, probably wearing a mostly empty backpack so he can pick up other people’s trash.
  • Baking: It only took one baking class in high school to knead Scott into a dough lover. He’s always ready to turn old pie, cookie, or bread recipes into new flavorful creations.
